My sponsor payments are being declined

I am trying to make a one-off sponsorship payment, but I receive an email every attempt from GitHub saying "Your payment method has been declined."

I have the funds, and I've tried wit smaller and smaller amounts in case it's a conversion issue (I'm Australia - AUD).

I contacted my bank and they said the authorisation hold is being rejected by them. In their words:

11/06/2025 $0.00 110625 15:57 GITHUB , INC.
DECLINE - VERIFY RESPONSE PROVIDED BY DEBIT HOST

The merchant is trying to verify the card - but they need to charge an amount in order to do so.

Charges of $0.00 will always be declined as the bank deems this to be a possible suspicious transaction for possible scam websites or a third party to test to see if the card is valid or not.

Please advice the merchant to always use the amount of $0.01 instead._
