Channels Used

Direct Posting (time sensitive)

  1. New lesson announcements. These should be prepared by the publishing assistant ahead of publication using the Username Log (usernames are not always available, especially for reviewers: use full names if necessary). On the day a lesson is published, post the 'Just Published' version on Bluesky and Mastodon.

  1. Bulletin launch. On the day the Bulletin is published, post the 'Out now!' version across Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn and Patreon. More details available on the Wiki page Schedule and Circulation.

Resources:

  1. Themed posts in EN, ES, FR and PT. We have 6 themes, each with 4 variants prepared.
  • Theme A: Diamond Open Access
  • Theme B: CC BY Licence
  • Theme C: (Open) Peer Review
  • Theme D: Institutional Partnership Programme
  • Theme E: Patreon
  • Theme F: Aggregators (NB: only available in English and French)

They are posted on Friday afternoon (~15:00 UK time) on Bluesky and Mastodon, in sequence EN-ES-FR-PT. When posting manually, you can define the post's language.

  1. Thanks or welcomes for IPPs. Posted when an IPP joins or renews their membership, after the payment has come through.

Scheduled Posts

  1. Evergreen pairs for the following week (pt1 on Monday, pt2 on Thursday). They are selected on a rolling basis: EN -> ES -> FR -> PT over a 4 week pattern. Within each language, they can be posted in chronological order from oldest to most recent. We log that a lesson has been posted using X in the neighbouring column.

It's useful to double-check the usernames (which are often old Twitter usernames). Quickly search across Bluesky and Mastodon (sometimes Twitter or a personal website can give hints), then find and replace across all four sheets of ph-evergreens-bluesky and ph-evergreens-mastodon. Finally, update the Username Log if needed. (This should become less frequent over time.)

  1. Open calls (e.g. Calls for Proposals or Reviewers, upcoming events...). Scheduled for the following Tuesday and/or Wednesday. If a third slot is needed, use Friday. Work down the spreadsheet, greying out the posts that have been used in that particular campaign as you go.

Resources:

  • 'Calls' tab in themed-posts
  1. Lesson announcement posts. Scheduled for 21 days after publication.

  1. Follow-up post for the Bulletin. Scheduled for 21 days after publication.

Notes

We are currently using Buffer to schedule posts, but it has limitations:

  • Only 10 posts per channel in the queue
  • Cannot set a language or add alt text in the metadata
  • Image/link preview is unreliable

We are considering using LinkedIn more consistently, especially for open calls and IPP solicitations.
